The Boudin Barndance - 1/10/2002

Remembered Rhode Island and New England country legend Eddie Zack who passed away yesterday morning at the age of 79. Eddie was a fixture in these parts and dedicated to the mission of preserving traditional country music. He along with his brother Richie and sisters Babs & Maril comprised the Hayloft Jamboree. They began performing in 1939 and didn't stop until Eddie sufferred a stroke late in the fall. 62 freakin' years (!!!) and most recently the last few years playing every Saturday night at a local Legion hall. He and Cousin Richie also hosted a weekly radio program on the local AM band that continued to be a priceless bit of listening each week. It was a show full of banter (making the coffee always the "hot" topic), flubs ("let's see what happens when I push this button") and classic country tunes from Phil Baugh to E.T. to our own Jack Smith. There's a decent page at the rockabilly hall of fame web site all about Eddie. He will be missed.

Also got into a bunch of new things with the emphasis on reissues. Featured tracks from the brand spankin' new Webb Pierce tribute "Caught In the Webb." Also featured four recent releases in the RCA Country Legends series from Don Gibson, Chet Atkins, Skeeter Davis and Dottie West. Also broke into the Bob Wills & Texas Playboys "Boot Heel Drag" retrospective of his MGM years. Other 1st time spins went to the Byrds "Preflyte Sessions" from Sundazed, the Wayne Hancock "South Austin Sessions" EP-CD, and that's about it. Buttshaker of the week????? Lewis Weber with a 7" on Tatoo called "Tell Me Baby." Now onto the goods....
