The Boudin Barndance - 01/15/2004

With all the talk the weather - about as cold out in these parts as I can ever recall - it was sure a night made for hangin' by the radio (as evidenced by wads of calls). Spotlighted the recent release of the 4th volume in the Greetings From Area Code 207 compilations showcasing roots and alt types from Down East, that being Maine. A pretty good cast of locals and alumni of the area comprise this latest volume which also features a bonus disc containing live recordings from national artists who've appeared on the local Portland commercial outlet WCLZ. And it all goes to benefit an arts outfit up there. Recommended. Barndance first timers tonight included Anna Fermin & Trigger Gospel, the upcoming Mekons release Punk Rock, Finnish rock/surf instro aces Laika & the Cosmonauts, Eric Westbury, Lucero, Okeh Wranglers, and the quite good C&W styled release from New England's own Mark Erelli titled Hillbilly Pilgrim which finds him backed by Boston-based Western Swing/country all stars The Spurs.

Buttshaker of the night????? It's pretty darn tough to top Groovey Joe Poovey's " Move Around" which takes this week's honors.
