The Boudin Barndance - 2/14/2002

The script for tonight's Boudin Barndance was pretty much written about 4 pm on Wednesday afternoon. What was going to be a set or two in memory of Waylon turned into nearly 90 minutes. Like I saw someone else say on some mailing list, Waylon Jennings was also my gateway into country music. While he could sure as heck go hardcore honky tonk, he also had an edge to his music which was a lure to those almost-country fans who favored the Southern rock and all back there in the '70s. Gotta say for me, he was right up there with E.T. and Lefty.

Also featured the brand new "Guys of the Big D Jamboree" recording this evening. Once again Dragon Street-meister David Dennard has delivered a package that easily challenges the import folks when it comes to yesteryear releases. A few other new things also making their Barndnace debuts tonight were the very excellent "Songs of Sahm" from the Bottle Rockets, the Texas singer/songwriter compilation "From Hell to Breakfast" from Sugar Hill, and "The Good News According to Roy Acuff" from the Audium Records folks.

Buttshaker of the night????? Well it ain't a hip shakin' rocker, but Waylon covering Steve Young's "Lonesome, On'ry & Mean" sure cooks. Now onto the goods....
