The Boudin Barndance - 03/25/2004

After a week in Austin taking in SXSW, it was back into the Boudin Barndance saddle this week. Saw a ton of stuff last week with a bunch of it seeping its way into the mix tonight. Previewed a bunch of live happenings in the area including Jack Smith & The Rockabilly Planet who play The Call in Providence on Saturday night, the Your Roots Are Showing monthly series which happens tommorrow (Friday) night at AS220 in Providence (www.as220.org) with a lineup of girls that twang that includes Sarah Borges (who delivered a knockout performance at Threadgill's last Friday night), Sara Cox, the Demolition String Band, and hosts Lucky 57. Also previewed music from Chip Taylor & Carrie Rodriguez who appear at the Narrows Center For the Arts in Fall River on Saturday as well as a house concert hosted by yours truly here in Peace Dale on Sunday afternoon. Also worked in a birthday salute set to the late, great Lefty Frizzell. New stuff making its way into the Barndance mix included the latest release from the Cornell Hurd Band as well as new ones from Michael Fracasso, Moot Davis, Dave Biller, and Matt the Electrician. Also played a cut from a 2-song demo from Chicago's The Hoyle Brothers who was one of the most impressive new acts I caught at last week's (Not)SXSW festivities.

Buttshaker of the night????? New England shoulda-beens Rick & the Fairlanes takes the honors with a diddy they called "Danger".
