The Boudin Barndance - 4/18/2002
In the midst of a freakish heat wave here in the Northeast
which in the
windowless WRIU studio made for a steamy box where the mercury
was hovering
around 90-95. It was f-ckin' hot! The Boudin Barndance carried
on, however.
No pre-planned features really this evening. Did a label focus
set with the
spotlight on past and recent goods from Slewfoot Records. Diggin'
the heck out
of the new Porter Hall, TN as well as Hillbilly Idol and still
haven't tired of
the Star Room Boys nor Hadacol. Florence Dore is on deck for
the label (but
that release which FD released herself originally has gotten plenty
of Barndance
airtime since last summer). So what else is new? Well how 'bout
releases from
Cary Hudson (late of Blue Mountain), Roy Acuff and Steve Earle
reissues,
Reverend Horton Heat, some primo East LA mambo ala the "Pachuco
Boogie"
collection from Arhoolie, a Steve Earle mixed bag release from
Artemis, a decent
debut from a new Austin voice in Chrissy Flatt, and the new one
from James
Talley which is darn excellent. Whoa! Buttshaker of the night?????
If it's
Evan Johns, it has got to be a buttshaker and "Sugar Cookie"
is up with the best
of 'em. Now onto the goods.....
