The Boudin Barndance - 5/2/2002

An evening of celebration on the Barndance tonight. First and foremost, a
couple of sets in celebration of Cinco de Mayo Day coming up on Sunday. Any
excuse I can find for delving into a heavy dose of Tex-Mex, I will, with the
bulk of it coming from Arhoolie releases. Celebrated the 60th birthday of the
late Tammy Wynette, a personal favorite of mine, with a set of her music. Also
lots of releases getting first time spins on the Barndance this evening. Among
them, new ones from Charlie Sizemore, Daryle Singletary, Darden Smith, Will
Rigby, and one from Brooklyn-based Neil Cleary which is quickly moving to the
top of my own personal hit parade. Also the brand new Best of Johnny Paycheck
collection focusing on the Epic years. Buttshaker of the night????? Ray Campi
takes the honors with "Dobro Daddio From Del Rio." And finally, a big time
Boudin Barndance tip of the hat to Karen Poston & her Crystal Pistols (Andrew
Nafziger and Vance Hazen) who slayed a jammed room at a house concert at my
place last Sunday. Damn they were good. And a big thanks to Slaid Cleaves for
making a cameo and dueting on a few with Karen. Now onto the goods.....
