The Boudin Barndance - 5/9/2002

A happenin' night on the Barndance this evening. Previewed upcoming shows from
the Silos (Fall River, 5/10), the Supersuckers and Jesse Dayton (5/15 & 5/16 at
the Middle East in Cambridge), and Caitlin Cary who plays the Met in Providence
tomorrow night. Gave tix away for that show as well. Celebrated the music of
Keith Whitley who passed away 13 years ago today. To these ears, despite a
career cut short, still one of the great voices in country music history. Lots
of new things getting 1st-time spins on the Barndance tonight. They included
the new Jim Lauderdale/Ralph Stanley collaboration, the Flatlanders, Giant Sand,
John Michaels Group, Chester Smith & Merle Haggard, David Zollo, a new
compilation form the Texas International Music Association called "Boots &
Bibles", and a great set from the Bacchus Archives folks focusing on the early
'60s Tucson sound called "Think of the Good Times". Buttshaker of the
night????? A wad of Tucson r 'n' r from the Ric-A-Shays called "Turn On". Now
