The Boudin Barndance - 7/18/2002

Back in the Boudin Barndnace saddle this week after the bi-annual visit to
Austin where the wife & I took in a ton of the local sounds. If you go, be
there on a Thursday where you can catch Karen Poston at happy hour at Stubbs,
then Cornell Hurd's 8 pm show at Jovita's, and then finish the night at the
Carousel with Jim Stringer & his AM Band. Whoa! Was fortunate to even get some
air time down there with my buddy (and fill-in DJ, these days) Len Brown who was
sittin' for Rod Moag doing the Country Swing & Rockabilly Jamboree show on KOOP
last Thursday morning. Scored a bunch of new releases from artists down there
all of which received 1st-time spins on the Barndance this evening. These
included the latest from High Noon and Roy Heinrich, and the solo debut from
Mike Barfield of Hollisters fame. The latter is a bit of a departure from the
Hollisters stuff, but I'm diggin' it big time. Other 1st-timers on the
Barndance tonight included the latest from Vermont hillbilly cats the Starline
Rhythm Boys. Big thumbs up on that one. Also releases from Jason Allen, local
heroes the Dino Club (featuring Mark Cutler of Schemers fame), Bobby Bare Jr.,
and a brand new compilation of Hasil Adkins craziness from the folks at Norton
records.

Previewed a couple of shows in the area including Slobberbone who are at the
Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River on Sunday evening and Porter Hall, TN
who are playing a house concert at yours truly's house on Wednesday. Did up a
big ol' birthday set in honor of Evan Johns who also has a swell new one out.
Buttshaker of the night????? I'd have to be nuts not to give it to Evan Johns
doing "Boudin Man." Now onto the goods.....
