The Boudin Barndance - 10/30/2003

A very full night on the Boudin Barndance this evening. First off, we welcomed,
via phone, photographer Henry Horenstein whose book "Honky Tonk: Portraits of
Country Music 1972 - 1981" has just been published by Chronicle Books. The book
is full of some fabulous photographs which fans of vintage country/bluegrass
should dig quite a bit. His lens takes us to places far and wide from Tootsie's
to Fred's Lounge in Mamou to the late Hillbilly Ranch in Boston. Check the shots
at www.honkytonkbook.com. Horenstein teaches at RISD in Providence.
We previewed two upcoming shows in the area (and also did ticket giveaways).
First off was Danny Barnes who appears at the Common Fence Point Community Hall
in Portsmouth, R.I. on Saturday night, and then Bill Kirchen & Too Much Fun who
land at the Bank Street Cafe in New London, CT tomorrow night (Oct. 31)
(www.bankstreetcafe.com). A bunch of releases making their Barndance debut this
evening as well including new ones from Rick Shea & Patty Booker, a best-of
collection from Robert Earl Keen, Grandpaboy, Bottle Rockets (big thumbs up!),
and one of two reissues from Arhoolie featuring the border rock of Eddie Con Los
Shades, a.k.a Freddy Fender.

Buttshaker of the night???? How 'bout the pairing of Big Sandy and Los Straitjackets
with the Latin rocker "Que Mala".
