I’m beginning to get a little tired of winter, but it did not stop the Boudin Barndance from feeling its oats this evening. On the agenda tonight, a remembrance of the late Hasil Adkins who will be inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame on Saturday. We spent the last 25 minutes samplin’ his wares. Now that would’ve been the ultimate house concert. Once again we gave away tix for Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer at the Greenwich Odeum on Feb. 9. And all that was just the tip of the iceberg. This evening was the final full Boudin Barndance radio show of 2017 as we will only be on for 30 minutes next week and there is no show on the 28th. Winter has finally hit here with bitter cold and snow today, but the Barndance was here to warm y’all up out there in listener land. Chief on the agenda tonight were: 1) A listen to the new album from local hero Mark Cutler; ) A sampling of the mix CD accompanying The Oxford American magazine annual music issue with this year’s focus on Kentucky artists; 3) Ticket giveaways for Deer Tick at the Newport Blues Cafe on Dec. 28 with The Z-Boys opening. Besides all that, the usual Barndance mix. Still some 2017 releases making the Barndance hit parade for the first time. In addition to the new one from Mark Cutler, recordings from Dan Whitaker & the Shinebenders, The Hens, The Bakersfield Breakers, and The Oxford American sampler all debuted on tonight’s program. Oh yeah, we played one in memory of Wayne Cochran who passed away near the end of November. Buttshaker of the week???? This evening was the next to last Boudin Barndance radio show of 2017 as we will be interrupted each of the last two weeks of December. The BB spotlight was on the new deluxe edition of Wilco’s Being There released last week. Also released at the same time was the deluxe version of the band’s first album, A.M. Other than that, we bounced around throughout the evening while closing out with a few holiday flavored numbers. The Boudin Barndance radio show returned tonight after a week off and it was a full plate. We previewed upcoming shows in the area by Deer Tick in Providence (Nov. 24) & Pawtucket (Nov. 25-26) and The Texas Gentlemen @ the Narrows Center for the Arts this coming Monday. Also gave away some tix for the latter. We saluted all kinds of birthdays and remembered Doug Sahm what with the anniversary of his passing this Saturday. New releases making the Barndance hit parade for the initial time included albums from Wilco (reissue), Brother Roy, Ren, This is Steve, Deer Tick, local heroes The Low Cards who play a CD release party at Fort Foreclosure in Warren on Nov. 25, and a new Kris Kristofferson tribute. A Boudin Barndance radio show tonight that seemed like it went by in the blink of an eye. It flowed pretty god. We remembered Jessi Zazu of Those Darlins fame who succumbed to cancer earlier in the week. Only 28. Such a shame.
