A Boudin Barndance radio show tonight that seemed like it went by in the blink of an eye. It flowed pretty god. We remembered Jessi Zazu of Those Darlins fame who succumbed to cancer earlier in the week. Only 28. Such a shame. We closed out with a set of tunes from some Kentucky artists making some good noise out there with their country tunes: Tyler Childers, Jeremy Pinnell, and Colter Wall. A bunch of albums making their Barndance debut tonight including releases from Chris Hillman, Christian Lopez, Lizz Wright, Rusty Young, local hero Josh Schurman, and the upcoming one from JD McPherson. Back in the Boudin Barndance saddle this evening after a couple of weeks of moving between upstate New York, Ohio, Oregon, and upstate New York again. We welcomed Chuck Wentworth onto the program to talk about the 20th annual
Rhythm & Roots Festival which he produces and which happens Labor Day Weekend at Ninigret Park in Charlestown, RI. (www.rhythmandroots.com). Also remembered two fallen heroes from the country and rock & roll worlds in Glen Campbell and Sonny Burgess. Sonny was actually a guest on the Barndance in the late 1990s and played the pre-house concert version of our Roots Hoot series at a club in Providence (with big thanks to Jack Smith!). A gloomy and chilly evening in these parts tonight, so perfect for hangin’ with The Boudin Barndance which we’re hoping many of you did do. An evening of mostly playing the field. We did shine the spotlight on two recent collections near show’s end, “Looking Forward” which focuses on the pre-Big Star sides from Chris Bell and “Kickin’ Child” from Norton Records which is a superb collection of 1965 recordings for Columbia by Dion. New and recent releases making their Barndance debut tonight in addition to the Chris Bell collection were albums from Sonny Landreth, Amber Cross, White Owl Red, and Moot Davis. The Boudin Barndance concluded its 30th year salute tonight, again with nothing out of the ordinary on the docket. We did kick off with a Gram Parsons number. The first Barndance in May of 1987 was a salute to GP. Anyway, hotter than a mofo in these parts today, so hopefully if you were listening you were someplace cool. Another of our mix-‘em-up nights. We did give away a pair of weekend passes to the Green River Festival (www.greenriverfestival.com) happening July 14-16 in Greenfield, MA. We’ll do it again next week, too. The Boudin Barndance took last week off for a little post-radiothon r&r and we did none of that resting. Heck, we found a radio station in Hudson, NY to put up with our crap. Thanks to Spike Priggen and WGXC for lettin’ me get my airwaves ya ya’s out in the other ‘burg. Anyway, back in the saddle this evening with guns-a-blazing. This evening was the The Boudin Barndance edition of the 2017 WRIU Radiothon fundraiser and once again the calls were plenty. Thank you all!
