The Garage

The Garage

Mondays 6-8am

Jazz – straight ahead bop, hard bop, swing and a little bit of everything else with Dino D.

We play straight ahead jazz and anything else we find in the back of the garage.

Duke Ellington once said, “There are two kinds of music; good….. and the other kind.” In the garage we don’t play the other kind. We play a mix of classic jazz tunes that your mother should know, deep album cuts that don’t often see the light of day and new releases by both established and up and coming artists. For two hours each week you’ll be reminded of where jazz has been and informed of where it’s going. Swing, bop, hard bop, avant-garde and fusion. You’ll find it all in the Garage, and of course, there’s Monk. Always Monk.

Country Rhode Show

Country Rhode Show

Thursdays 9pm-Midnight

Country, Western, Bluegrass, Folk with Nick Casey and Sammy Alabammy

Relive the sounds of country heroes past while venturing into the next great artists of today.

The Country Rhode Show began in 2015 when Sam and Nick met at the RIU2 meeting. When asked to write down what types of music they would consider playing, they both happened to have country as a top choice. They were then both given a show together, and were able to express their love for country and bluegrass once a week. While the show has had many faithful listeners from the start, the number of listeners has significantly grown over the past few years. While Sam and Nick have quite a collection of music of their own, they are always eager to take requests from listeners in order to discover new artists to play on the show. So tune in and enjoy the show because they play both types of music: Country AND Western!

I was a big fan of the freeform FM radio of the late ‘60s. That’s what I modeled my show after. You never know what you’ll hear but my hope is that it’s a unique blend of rock, jazz, folk, Americana, world music, classical, and anything else I can think of on a given day.

World Wide Waves

World Wide Waves

Sundays 8-11am

An eclectic weekly show of great music from around the globe, since 1981. Featuring world music and international sounds of folk, latin, electronic, jazz, reggae, rock with rotating hosts, Bruce Decker, Dan & Justin Kahn, Chris Stewart and DJ Madame B.

In an 2012 interview with the Block Island Times, show founder Bruce Decker said “World Music is any music, not just ethnic.” Decker… wonders why so many stations give global music such a “Smithsonian approach.” By that he means a bookish, scholarly presentation for something lively, interesting, and diverse, especially African pop music, his favorite genre.

“I like it when cross-cultural happens in music,” he says, adding you never know what might materialize when a Celtic band starts jamming with an African pop group (think the Afro Celt Sound System.).
