If you're a URI Student interested in getting involved at WRIU, there are plenty of things you can do.
If you'd like to get a show, you can start out in Studio B. Studio B is WRIU's online-only station, broadcasting from the URI Memorial Union to everywhere on Earth. Unlike WRIU-FM, Studio B is completely freeform.
In addition to shows, we're also looking for people for our News and Sports departments. The News Staff gives brief news reports at least once a day Monday-Friday. The Sports Department covers many URI athletic events both at home and away, and need people both for play-by-play at the game and producers in the studio.
If you aren't the on-air type, but still want to be involved with the station, you can get involved with the Executive Board (that's not to say you can't do both). The Exec Board runs WRIU, and there's a lot of stuff involved in keeping a radio station running 24/7. Whether you're interested in engineering, business, sales, office work, promotions, making photocopies, public affairs, or any number of things, there's probably something needing doing that we'd be happy to make you do.
We're also always looking for people to join our Street Team to help get the word out about the station both on and off campus.
We're going to have a big meeting to explain all of this stuff to you on Wednesday September 12 at 7pm in room 308 of the Union. This page, along with many others will be updated with the date/time/room when that information is available. There will also be signs up around campus, especially in the Memorial Union. If you'd like to get the information e-mailed to you, just sign up for our the WRIU Meetings mailing list. We don't sell, rent, give away or otherwise use your e-mail address, and we'd have to fill out a whole lot of paperwork to be able to, so don't worry about that sort of thing.
If you can't come to the meeting, or you're just too excited to wait for it, you can stop by the WRIU Office on the third floor of the Memorial Union anytime. If nobody's there, try any other time. Depending on who's there we may or may not be helpful, but we'll try to be friendly.
