May 13 – 35th anniversary show – No Biggy
The final Boudin Barndance of April was a full plate of stuff. We remembered Arkansas-based alt country singer/songwriter Jim Mize who passed away last week. Jim only made three records, but boy are they special. Best known for a couple of his songs being covered by Blue Mountain, we remembered him with a lengthy set from those albums, as well as a cover of his “Let’s Go Running” by Blue Mountain. Also saluted Willie Nelson with a set of his music in honor of his birthday on Saturday. Devoted our first hour to primarily new releases followed by our weekly C&W segment. Closed out the program on the soul and blues side of the tracks. New albums and singles making their Barndance debut tonight came from Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder, The Silos (single), Jon Hatchett, Cristina Vain, Bonnie Raitt, and Joshua Hedley. Buttshaker of the week???? Barbara Pittman with “Sentimental Fool.” Now let’s all grab a cold one or three, and get to the goods….
