The muggy summer weather is creepin’ up on us here in Southern New England, so it was up to the Boudin Barndance to cool things out this evening. We tried our best. On the agenda was a remembrance of Cajun country star and Opry favorite Jimmy C. Newman who passed away last weekend. With the 2014 Bloodshot Records calendar somewhat as our guide, in honor of the label’s 20th anniversary this year we continued our once monthly “Bloodshot flashback set” with notable past June releases from the label. New releases making their Barndance debut tonight included albums from Trampled by Turtles, Old Crow Medicine Show, First Aid Kit, The Mastersons, and The Hot Nut Riveters. Buttshaker of the week???? Late birthday boy Nathan Abshire with “Pine Grove Blues”. Now let’s all grab a cold one or two (I got mine!) and get to the goods….
