The first Boudin Barndance of May was a dandy. At least, it felt like a dandy as we head into the 25-year anniversary month of the program. Loads of honky tonk-and-then-some birthday salutes. We remembered a honky tonk hero of the New England variety who left us this past weekend, yodelin’ Kenny Roberts, with a triple spin of songs. Featured a few tunes from folk and blues guitar stylist Steve James from Austin who plays a house show hosted by yours truly this Saturday. We also concluded our two-part look at a bunch of 45s from a special Record Store Day 45-RPM box set of recordings from the vaults of Ric Records. It’s a highly recommended set. A mess of new albums making their Barndance debuts this evening including records from Luther Dickinson, Chelle Rose, Turnpike Troubadours, Chris Erikson, and the Sons of Bill. Buttshaker of the week???? Edgar Blanchard & the Gondoliers with “Bopsody in Blue” from a Ric 45. Priceless. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
