Back in the Boudin Barndance saddle this week after a wild and wooly five days in the Windy City. Number One on the agenda was remembrances of two fallen heroes, pioneering bluegrasser Hazel Dickens and legendary producer Huey P. Meaux each of whom passed away at the end of last week. We closed out the show saluting each. Kicked off the show with a preview of this evening’s Michael Hurley/Jonny Corndawg/Deer Tick show at the Met Cafe in Pawtucket. In addition to that, new releases pretty much dominated the evening’s proceedings. Those receiving their inaugural Barndance spin included albums from Amy Black, Robyn Ludwick, Eric Hanke, Emmylou Harris, Kip Boardman, Roxanne Potvin, Shannon McNally, Ha Ha Tonka, and the two Record Store Day special releases from Bloodshot Records, a 7″ from Justin Townes Earle and the new compilation No One Got Hurt. Buttshaker of the week???? In memory of Huey P. Meaux, we give the honors to the Sir Douglas Quintet with “She’s About a Mover”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
