Another full plate on the Boudin Barndance this evening. We began on a bit of a sad note with some tunes in remembrance of fiddle/violin player and singer Amy Farris who passed away suddenly last weekend. Always loved her solo release “Anyway”, so we played a few from that as well as one from Dave Alvin’s Guilty Women Band album from this past Spring. Very sad. Also again previewed music from a couple of performers coming into the area, Lucinda Williams (Oct. 7 at Lupo’s in Providence) and The Starline Rhythm Boys who play a house concert/party hosted by yours truly this Sunday. We have a scant few spots available, so e-mail me if interested. From there it was onto the big event of the evening, our special guest Johnny Maguire, a.k.a. The Colonel who joined us from 6:30 – 9 pm to talk about his upcoming guitar extravaganza called ‘The Colonel’s Super Dooper Guitar Party”. It all happens October 16-18 at the wonderful German Club in Pawtucket, R.I. and features guitarists galore from Duke Robillard, Lester Peabody and Sean Mencher to J. Geils, Brownbird Rudy Relic, Orb Mellon and Barbara Lynn. There will be four sessions spread over the three days with clinics, a trade show, and plenty of live music. In other words, a must-attend event and especially if you live in these parts. Check out www.colonelsguitarparty.com for the complete skinny. Oh yeah, buttshaker of the week???? We go back aways. Keepin’ it Ocean State, the Colonel himself in his Amazing Royal Crowns days with “Gretschy”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
