The not-so-hot weather continues here in Southeastern New England this week, so once again The Boudin Barndance was tasked with brightening spirits. In addition to the usual mixed bag of stuff, we previewed the 23rd annual Green River Festival happening July 17-18 on the campus of Greenfield Community College in Greenfield, MA. It’s a great and comfortable festival and once again a stellar lineup kicking off Friday evening with a 15th anniversary celebration of Signature Sounds Records followed by Saturday’s big event with Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Dave Alvin, Michael Franti, Kathleen Edwards, and Justin Townes Earle among the name players. Check out www.greenriverfestival.com for the complete skinny. A bunch of first timers tonight, too, with new albums from Providence -based buzz band Deer Tick, Ha Ha Tonka, Levon Helm, J.B. Beverley & the Wayward Drifters, Those Darlins, Son Volt, and Jennie DeVoe all making their Barndance debut. Buttshaker of the week???? Sweet, simple and quick, it was “Cotton Pickin'” from The LeRoi Brothers. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
