Well, we’ve had some form of rain in these parts each of the last seven days, so suffice to say it’s been a bit gloomy in Southeastern New England. The M.O. of the Boudin Barndance this evening? To perk people up. Lots on the Barndance plate this evening. First up, we commemorated the late Mississippi Fred McDowell who was honored today in Como, MS with a marker on the Mississippi blues trail. Next, we remembered “The Voice”, Mr. Vern Gosdin, who passed away last week. We featured music from country singer Jamey Johnson who plays a free show at the Mohegan Sun Casino Wolf Den tomorrow evening. Also, we shined the spotlight on the latest release from The Numero Group called “Smart’s Palace” featuring recordings from artists who frequented that soul joint located in Wichita, Kansas durng the 1965-73 time period. Finally, a bunch of releases making their Barndance debut tonight including new ones from John Paul Keith & the 145s, Booker T., Olympic Ass Kickin’ Team, Willem Maker, Scott H. Biram (bug thumbs up!), Amy Speace, New York Dolls, Missy Higgins, and the aforementioned Smart’s Palace collection. Buttshaker of the week???? No brainer. Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings with “The Dap Dip”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
