The first Boudin Barndance of June was a busy one, sort of. I’ve got this
painting of Ernest Tubb in my living room and when we do our house concerts,
ET’s mug is usually right behind the performer. Well, I looked at him for
90 minutes last Saturday and I thought I could see him saying “Play me on
the radio this week.” We obliged with a set from the hall of fame legend.
We also remembered guitarist-extraordinaire Jerry Cole who passed last week
with a short set of instrumentals. Jim Stringer’s very fine new one was in
the spotlight near show’s end. Other albums making their Barndance debut
this evening included albums from Andy Friedman, Gandalf Murphy (in R.I. on
Saturday), Kimmie Rhodes, Old 97s, and Crooked Still. Buttshaker of the
week???? How about the late, great Adolph Hofner with “The Tickle-Toe
Song”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
