Lots of stuff on the Boudin Barndance plate this evening. Always been a huge
fan of Louisiana swamp pop and rock ‘n’ roll and ever since being recharged by
catching Larry Lange & His Lonely Nights on a recent quickie to Austin, I’ve
been jonesin’ to dedicate a chunk of the Barndance to those sumptuous sounds.
(I’m almost tempted to make it a set each week.) Hence, the last hour of
tonight’s program mired in the sounds of the Gulf coast. Also on the agenda, as
well as keeping with the Louisiana slant, were birthday salutes to D.L. Menard
and the late John Delafose. Previewed Lucero’s free show this Tuesday at Jake’s
in Providence. Oh yeah, a short brithday set for Loretta Lynn, too. And of
course, we worked a few first-timers into the Barndance hit parade including the
very fine new album from Jon Dee Graham called “Full” and the equally good new
one from Calexico. Buttshaker of the night????? Guitar Gable with the beaut
called “Congo Mambo”. Now onto the goods…..
