Well, winter has finally given way to summer here in Rhode Island and it feels real good. A happenin’ night on the Barndance where we featured music from a number of people playing live in the area in the next few days including Graham Parker & the Figgs, Chip Taylor & Carrie Rodriguez, Greg Trooper, and James McMurtry. Did a birthday salute set in honor of the late Wynn Stewart. Also did a label spotlight on a whole bunch of terrific new CDs, 45s, and LPs from the good folks at Norton Records. Featured were rockabilly compilations Wildcat Jamboree, Kicksville Vol. 3, and Shake It Up & Move featuring a whole bunch of circa late-1950s Texas rockers as well as the LP release of Ron Haydock & the Boppers’ 99 Chicks. On the 7-inch front, new “old” wax from Johnny Clark & the Four Playboys, the late Jimmie Lee Fautheree, and a 4-song 45 called Party Date featruing tracks from some late 1950s Dallas rockers.
Other releases hitting the Barndance hit parade for the first time were new ones from the aforementioned Parker & the Figgs, Dwight Yoakam’s new one which is return to early 90s form to these ears, and Rick Broussard’s of Two Hoots & a Holler fame. Buttshaker of the night???? Take your pick of plenty of goods, but we give the nod to Big D rocker Vince Murphy & the Catalinas with “Speechless”. Now onto the goods…..
