Back to regular Boudin Barndance business tonight after our one week fundraiser
conducted all of last week. We thank all who pledged thier support the WRIU way
and in particular, the Boudin Bardance way. Began this evening’s program with a
remembrance of steel guitar great Jerry Byrd who passed away on Monday. Loretta
Lynn celebrated her 70th birthday today, so a perfect excuse to feature her
music which we did to close the program out. In between, we featured music from
Nora O’Connor who plays a house concert on Sunday in these parts hosted by yours
truly, and Hank Williams III who plays The Living Room in Providence tomorrow
night. A mess of releases getting Barndance airplay for the first time on
tonight’s show. They included Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, The Hickmen, Shurman,
Clem Snide, Jimmy Ryan & Hayride, The Rizdales, Amber Digby, a 7-incher from
guitarist Graham Tichy of Lustre Kings fame, and a reissue of the classic Merle
Travis/Joe Maphis collaboration from the early 1960s titled “Country Music’s Two
Guitar Greats”. Buttshaker of the night???? Why Graham Tichy with a nifty
instrumental titled “Tomahawk Stomp”. Now onto the goods…..
