Bloodshot Records was in the spotlight this evening as we previewed the upcoming
10th annual CMJ showcase for the label happening at Union Pool in Brooklyn from
noon until 7 PM on Saturday. Played selections from albums from all of the
artists who will be performing. In particular, worked in a bunch of cuts from
The Meat Purveyors who in addition to the Brooklyn gig perform at a house
concert on Sunday in these parts hosted by yours truly. Did a birthday salute
to Melba Montgomery who celebrates her 66th today. Featured some early sides
from Don Walser as we send out best wishes to him from the Boudin Barndance. A
bunch of new releases making the Barndance hit parade for the first time as
well. These included a reissue of the 1980 release from Keny Baker & Bobby Hicks
called “Darkness On the Delta” as well as new ones from the Nashville Bluegrass
Band, The Mendoza Line, Dan Israel, and the latest from Matt the Electrician who
along with his singing mate Seela put on a heckuva house concert for us this
past Sunday. His new one comes highly recommended. Buttshaker of the
night????? Who can resist “Hum-m-m-dinger” from Huelyn Duvall. Now onto the
