An evening dominated by new releases and a birthday tribute or three. On the
new release side, the Barndance spotlight was on the newly released collection
of previously unissued live recordings from the late Austin singer/songwriter
Blaze Foley called “Oval Room” (Lost Art Records, www.lostartrecords.com).
Other releases making their Barndance debut included new ones from Th’ Legendary
Shack Shakers, Steve Jones, Robyn Hitchcock, Luna, Sam Brothers 5 (reissue),
C.C. Adcock, Magnolia Sisters, the aforementioned Foley, Social Distortion, and
Paul Thorn. On the birthday side of the Barndance ledger, we saluted Dale
Watson, the late Pete Drake, and the late Floyd Tillman. Buttshaker of the
night????? Why the birthday boy himself, Dale Watson, with “Texas Boogie”. Now
