The centerpiece of this evening’s Boudin Barndance was a remembrance of soul singer Syl Johnson who passed on February 6. A favorite of the Boudin Barndance over the years, as I said on the show if I had to pick one soul artist for my desert island, it would be the music of Syl. Kicked off the show with an hour of primarily new releases before moving into our weekly C&W segment which began on a hard rockabilly note. A set of Louisiana stuff and then some blues followed after the midpoint before diving into a slew of Syl to close things out. New albums and singles making their Barndance debut tonight included albums from Steve Poltz, The Del McCoury Band, The Pine Hearts, Phil Lee, Sophie & The Broken Things, and Sarah Borges and singles from Triptides and Courtney Barnett. Buttshaker of the week???? Syl Johnson, of course, with “Come On Sock It to Me.” Now let’s all grab a cold one or three, and get to the goods….
