The Boudin Barndance tooted its own horn tonight saluting its Swamp Stomp summer fest for which the 12th annual happens this weekend. It was spawned out of our long running Roots Hoot House Concerts series when our good pal, Eric Ambel, said he had a band looking for a gig in the summer of 2008. Knowing Roscoe like we do, yes was the answer and Bottle Rockets was the band and together with good friends, we pulled off the first edition of Swamp Stomp that summer. 11 years later, number 12 happens this Saturday with mekons headlining and the temps supposedly approaching 100 degrees. Bring it on! In honor of it all, we previewed this year’s event and followed that by a retrospective of the various headliners over the 12 years in somewhat chronological order. Oh yeah, we did break out some new releases tonight. Albums from Phil Lee, Rod Picott, Suzie Brown, Lasers Lasers Birmingham, and a sneak preview of the Bloodshot debut from Jason Hawk Harris (who is playing Swamp Stomp) all made the cut for the first time. Buttshaker of the week???? It was a tie between Sleep LaBeef with “I’m Comin’ Home” and the Waco Brothers with “Pigsville.” Now let’s all grab a cold one, or two, and get to the goods….
