First off, we give our thanks to two WRIU DJs who we lost in the last few weeks. Peter Dante hosted the long-running Reggae Showcase program which broadcast on Sunday afternoons for the past 40 years and was major a force in bringing reggae and its offshoots to the airwaves in these parts. A true professional. We also lost Ken Shane who hosted a pop and folk leaning program that appeared in various timeslots over the last bunch of years. Ken was also a very reliable substitute for the Boudin Barndance on numerous occasions. Our condolences go out to Peter and Ken’s family and friends. By the way, WRIU will broadcast a special show to recognize Peter that is scheduled for this Sunday starting at 2 pm.
As for tonight’s program, we continued a long-standing Boudin Barndance radio show Thanksgiving tradition this evening by giving thanks to the music of Doug Sahm in all his various incarnations. We devoted 7-9 pm segment to all things Doug from early 45s to Sir Douglas Quintet material to various solo and band lead stuff. Oh yeah, some covers, too! The first hour was a matter of playing some odds & ends stuff that strike a nerve, including Dylan’s “Murder Most Foul” which is has become the new Alice’s Restaurant for The Boudin Barndance. Buttshaker of the week???? Sir Douglas Quintet, obviously, with “She’s About a Mover.” Now let’s all grab a cold one or three, and get to the goods….
