With temps in the teens and snow on the ground, we’re finally in the throes of
winter in these parts. Hence, a little surf music near the end of the Boudin
Barndance this evening to remind folks that beach days are comin’. Previewed (&
gave away tix for) the Drunk Stuntmen’s show coming up Saturday night at the
Narrows Center For the Arts in Fall River, MA (www.ncfta.org). Played a couple
from singer/songwriter Ben Weaver’s new one. Ben will also be at the Narrows
opening for Kristin Hersh next Thursday. Also featurned tracks from the newly
released Volume 5 of the Greetings From Area Code 207 series from Cornmeal
Records profiling both current and ex-Maine performers. Some pretty good stuff
on the collection. Not much for 1st-timers on this evening’s show. Did finally
get hold of the Candi Staton reissue collection which is fabulous (and right
there with the Bettye Swann release, also from Honest Jons Records). Buttshaker
of the night????? How ’bout one-time La Louisianne recording artist King Karl
with the 1966 R&B chesnutt “Everybody’s Feeling Good”. Now onto the
goods…..
