A very full plate on this evening’s Boudin Barndance. We began by breaking out a bunch of new releases that have been piling up, so to speak. Next it was time to salute some recently departed Boudin Barndance musical heroes, namely Country Music Hall of Fame member Carl Smith, songwriter Bobby Charles, and Vic Chesnutt ( I still think the Texas Hotel stuff is supreme). Featured a few from Ralph Stanley who along with his Clinch Mountain Boys appears at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River on Friday evening. We shined the spotlight on two recent multi-volume collections from Brooklyn-based Norton Records focusing on the early vocal group works of Sun Ra and another zeroing in on the on-the-fringes madness of Kim Fowley. New & recent releases making their Barndance debut this evening included new ones from Nancy Apple, Reckless Kelly, I See Hawks in L.A., Crazy Heart soundtrack, Luther Dickinson & Sons of Mudboy, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Watson Twins, Allison Moorer, John Shipe, Tom Gillam, Turbo Fruits, and the latest Numero Group release Good God!
