The last Boudin Barndance of January was a mixed bag of business. Once again, we broke out a bunch of new releases to the ol’ library. First time spins went out to releases from Will Kimbrough, Joy Kills Sorrow, Jane Baxter Miller, Eric Bibb, The Sojourners, Suzy Ragsdale, Shelley King, and the new E.C. Ball memorial album “Face a Frowning World.” We saluted the late Lester Flatt who was commemorated by the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this week. We remembered the talented guitarist Jimmy Wyble who passed recently and played the 6-string for everyone from Bob Wills to Benny Goodman. We showcased a few from the new Duke Robillard album with singer Sunny Crownover called “Tales From the Tiki Lounge.” They do a CD release party next Friday at Chan’s in Woonsocket. Played a couple from the Crazy Heart soundtrack as the film opens in R.I. tomorrow. (Side note: The film is adapted from a book written by Rhode Island College professor Thomas Cobb.) Finally, we played a few from Andre Williams who gives a reading from his new book of fiction “Sweets” next Friday night in New York City as part of The Poetry Project Friday Night Reading Series. Writer Nick Tosches is also on the bill. Check out www.poetryproject.com. Buttshaker of the week???? We give it to Andre with “Out That Skillet Away” from his Norton release “Bait & Switch”.
