We no longer have storms around here, we have events. We had ’em this week on Tuesday & Wednesday and in the aftermath is the frozen tundra that is the URI campus. It made for no parking and a pretty treacherous hike to the station. Happy to report that no bones were broken to or fro and The Boudin Barndance went on as scheduled. As is customary each year, we remembered The Day the Music died, this year being the 52nd since that fateful day in an Iowa cornfield. Music from Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper opened the program. We previewed music from Lori McKenna who plays the Stone Soup Coffeehouse in Pawtucket on Saturday night night (www.soup.org) and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings who play The Met Cafe in Pawtucket next Thursday night (www.lupos.com). Finally, we remembered pedal steel great Buddy Charleton of Texas Troubadours fame who passed away on January 25. New releases making their Barndance debut this evening included albums from Malcolm Holcombe, Carolina Chocolate Drops (an EP), T-Model Ford & Gravel Road, Eddie Spaghetti (at Club Hell in Providence on April 3), David Berkeley, and a retrospective of Bishop Manning & the Manning Family Band. Buttshaker of the week???? The Dirtbombs gettin’ down with “The Thing”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods…
