It was a night where new releases dominated the Boudin Barndance festivities. There is some terrific new stuff out and leading the charge is the comeback release from original lead singer of the Shangri-Las Mary Weiss. With backing from the Reigning Sound (whose Greg Cartwright co-produced and contributed 9 of the 14 songs), Weiss has herself a hands-down winner. Other new releases making the Barndance hit parade for the first time included albums from Jon Rauhouse (big thumbs up!), Pine Leaf Boys, The Greencards, Graham Parker (great stuff!), Anais Mitchell (incredible songwriter), Jesse Sykes & the Hereafter, Son Volt (different, but great), Dolorean, The Shins, Cary Hudson, and The Moaners. In addition to the plethora of new-bees, we previewed music from Mary Gauthier and Eliza Gilkyson who play a double bill at the Narrows Center for the Arts tomorrow night. Buttshaker of the night???? Two weeks running now, it’s the A-Bones (whose SXSW show was a primo highlight) with “A-Bomb Bop”. Now onto the goods….
