A night of odds and ends on the Barndance as far as the first half of the
program was concerned. In the second half, we were joined by Jack Smith of Jack
Smith & the Rockabilly Planet fame. Jack was up to promote his Saturday night
gig at the Bank Street Cafe in New London. Keeping a low profile over the last
few years, we played tunes from each of his four albums and talked old times. A
handful of albums making the Barndance hit parade for the first time on this
evening’s program. They included new ones from Los Super 7, Okkervil River,
Traci Lamar, John Doe, and a fabulous reissue from Hip-O Select of original
Coral recordings from Johnny Burnette & the Rock “N” Roll Trio. Buttshaker of
the night???? Mr. Smith gets the nod with “Can’t Help Myself”. Now onto the
goods…..
