Back in the Boudin Barndance saddle this evening after a week off that was spent catching a ton of films and music at SXSW. It was all pretty mind boggling and you can check out the Boudin Barndance blog (link above) for the complete skinny from this cat. As for the Barndance, well, among other things, we played plenty of stuff from bands seen in Austin. We played a set of music from Duane Jarvis as we’re thinking about him with a heavy heart. His solo releases are excellent. Check out www.caringbridge.org/visit/duanejarvis to help or leave a note. We shined the spotlight on the brand new Doug Sahm tribute “Keep Your Soul”. It’s a good one. With his birthday coming up, we remembered C&W great Lefty Frizzell with a couple (followed by the Buddy Miller/Robert Plant cover of his “What You Gonna Do Leroy”). In addition to the Sahm tribute, plenty of new releases making the Barndance hit parade for the inaugural time including albums from Richard Shindell, The Flatlanders, Terri Hendrix, Scott Miller & Commonwealth, Willie Heath Neal (big thumbs up!), local band Sit Down Baby, JohnPaulKeith & the 145s, and The Black Lips. Buttshaker of the week???? Gonna give it to Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears with “Gunpowder”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods……
