After some absolutely incredible rain which put R.I. in the national news, skies finally broke today. Despite the flooding and closed roads, the Boudin Barndance went on. Other than a couple of brithday salutes to honky tonk heroes Lefty Frizzell and Jim Ed Brown, it was the usual mixed bag of stuff on tonight’s program. A mess of releases gettnig first time spins tonight including 8-inchers from Wanda Jackson and the Dex Romweber Duo, a 7-incher from Chicago soul sensation J.C. Brown & The Uptown Sound (with a soul-sized cover of Wilco’s “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart” and who play a sold out show in Providence on Sunday evening), and new full-lengthers from Anais Mitchell, Martin Sexton, and Carley Wolf. Buttshaker of the week???? Tibby Edwards with a hunk of hillbilly shake called “Shift Gears”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
