Spring, make that summer, has sprung here in R.I. this week. In accordance with the gorgeous weather, we had Barndance fans calling from back porches on this warm Spring evening. Hopefully they already had their cold one in hand. A scattered program this evening on which we previewed upcoming live stuff, saluted some vets, broke out new stuff, and even went as far as loosely plugging the upcoming HBO series Treme’. As far as live shows, we previewed both Anais Mitchell and The Low Anthem who play Providence shows on April 14 & 21, respectively, at The Speakeasy at Local 121 and Lupo’s. Also played one from Heavy Trash who come to Club Hell on April 19. Birthday salutes to Carl Perkins, Merle Haggard and Bobby Bare. Releases making their Barndance debut this evening included new ones from The Cornell Hurd Band, Trampled by Turtles, Otis Gibbs, She & Him, Roky Erickson with Okkervil River, Galactic, and a sensational soul reissue of tunes from Little Ann. Buttshaker of the week???? Birthday boy Carl Perkins slamming it with “Her Love Rubbed Off”.
