So much stuff on the agenda and so little time was the situation on this evening’s Boudin Barndance. We did a couple of sets in remembrance of singer Bonnie Owens who passed away on Monday in Bakersfield. Even though she was mostly in a backup role, she remained a favorite. Not sure how those Haggard classics would’ve turned out without Bonnie singing in the background. A vital cog, IMHO. Last saw her with Merle in the early 1990s at the Warwick Music Theatre. My wife and I caught up with her after the show to talk and grab an autograph. Unfortunately, when it came to signature time neither of us had a pen. Leave it to Bonnie to break out her lipstick and sign my ticket stub in ruby red. A priceless artifact hanging in my kitchen ever since that night. Featured music from Josh Ritter who plays a show with the band Hem tomorrow evening at the Narrows Center For the Arts in Fall River (www.ncfta.org). Finally we welcomed Kip McCloud of the band Lucky 57 to the show in the final 30 minutes. Kip spearheads the rock ‘n’ roots series Your Roots Are Showing which after a hiatus gets back into action tomorrow night at the Century Lounge in Providence with a bill featuring Lonesome Bob, Hayseed, The Stumbleweeds, and Lucky 57 hosting. Check out www.yourrootsareshowing.org for the scoop. Kip has monthly shows already planned through September. Lucky 57 also has a new album coming in June. New releases make their Barndance debut this evening included albums from Bruce Robison, Mark Pickerel, and The Stumbleweeds. Buttshaker of the night?????
