Between lots of new things and some mini birthday salutes, it was the usual busy time on the Boudin Barndance tonight. On the birthday front, we did some mini salutes to the late Waylon Jennings and Leon Payne, not to mention the very alive Mike Buck of LeRoi Brothers drumming fame (we featured Mike bangin’ the skins on the classic Wortham Watts instrumental “Cottin Picker”) and Marti Brom. We remembered the great West Coast bluegrasser Vern Williams, who passed away on June 7, with some tracks from a couple of Arhoolie releases. We previewed music from the Bottle Rockets who play at Harper’s Ferry in Boston on Saturday night. On the new release front, first time Barndance spins went out to new ones from Ray Wylie Hubbard, Ginn Sisters, Abi Tapia, the trio of Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch & Fats Kaplan, Beau Roland Band from Boston, Jack Grace Band, Ray Mason, Frank Black, Amy Speace, and the new Kris Kristofferson tribute. Buttshaker of the night?????? The LeRoi Brothers take the honors with their version of the aformentioned Wortham Watts classic “Cottin Picker”. Now onto the goods…..
