What with Los Straitjackets in Providence this evening for their annual Xmas
Pageant extravaganza, it seemed only fitting to feature a bunch from the masked
ones and that how we opened this evening’s show. Also snuck in a couple from
New York upstaters The Hi Risers who were also on the Pageant bill. Remembered
the late Floyd Tillman in honor of his birthday this week with a couple from his
posthumous album from this past summer. Put the spotlight on recent releases
from the Norton Records folks to close out the show. Featured tracks from new
releases of stuff from the A-Bones, Hasil Adkins (reissue), Nervous Norvous, and
some Johnny Burnette demos from a couple LP-only release. New stuff in addition
to the Norton goodies making the Barndance hit parade for the first time
included two new Buck Owens reissues from Sundazed as well as a terrific twang
compilation called “Dancehall Stringbusters”, Xmas releases from Red Simpson and
LIttle Darlin’ Records, Johnny Dowd’s new one, and an “Essential” collection
from Rodney Crowell. Buttshaker of the night????? Link Wray & the Ray Men with
the monster of an instrumental “Deuces Wild”. Now onto the goods…..
