What with Christmas less than two weeks away and next Thursday looking as if we’ll be pre-empted after an hour for a URI basketball game, kicked things off on this evening’s Boudin Barndance with a little Yuletide fare. Featured music from a couple of chaps in the birthday spotlight, the late Charlie Rich and Frankie “Black Land Farmer” Miller. Even with the end of the year approaching, there was still a bunch of new releases making the Barndance hit parade for the first time. They included recordings from The Mendoza Line, Chris Mills, Okkervil River (Black Sheep Boy Appendix), Laura Viers, a 7″ from Norton Records featuring Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, as well as Volume 4 in Norton’s Kicksville series of raw rockabilly acetates. Oh yeah, also broke out the new SSS Records compilation from the Sundazed folks. Buttshaker of the night????? Vince Murphy & the Catalinas with the red meat raw “Smooth Move”. Now onto the goods…..
