Back in the Boudin Barndance saddle after a very pleasurable jaunt to Portland, OR and thereabouts. Talk about food and beer. Also caught some great music. A busy Barndance this evening. We featured music from performers playing the area the next few weeks, that being Audrey Auld, Ann McCue, The Lonesome Brothers (a BBQ bash/outdoor house show hosted by yours truly), Charlie Musselwhite, and local hero Duke Robillard who has a fine new platter just out. Featured music from a cross-section of performers coming to the Rhythm & Roots at Ninigret music festival (www.rhythmandroots.com) which happens Labor Day weekend in Charlestown, R.I. (SPECIAL ALERT: We will have Horace Trahan whose band hosts the festival on the Barndance next week). A flashback to the old days of radio, we were hand-delivered the brand new release from the Cobra-Matics by the Colonel himself who popped in mid-show with the hot-off-the-presses disc. Oh yeah, we belatedly remembered Elvis. Lots of new releases making their Barndance debut tonight including albums from Marty Stuart, American Graveyard, Leslie Stevens & the Badgers, Mike & the Moonpies, Defibulators, Ann McCue, Charlie Musselwhite, Duke Robillard, John Mellencamp, Robert Randolph, The Cobra-Matics, Sally Ford & the Sound Outside (a discovery when in Portland), and the new Pastor T.L. Barrett reissue on LITA. Buttshaker of the week???? Syl Johnson in a runaway with “Let Yourself Go”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
