Back in the Boudin Barndance saddle tonight after a two week layoff where Roadtrippin’ Daddy was the M.O. – 3600+ miles, 16 states – hitting Nashville, Oxford, Clarksdale, Helena, Memphis, St. Louis, W. Lafayette, Niagara Falls, and back. Music was certainly an underlying theme behind all stops. And we did see plenty of live stuff – Black Lips & Those Darlins after the 1050 mile drive straight from R.I. to Nashville was a highlight in Nashville on Day 1 as was The Time Jumpers a few days later and John Paul Keith & the 145s in Memphis. Great food, crappy food, and in between kind of grub. Visited some great record stores (Grimeys, Goner, Euclid, Von’s) which is always my first stop in any city I hit. Gotta get the pulse and that is the best way. Anyway, as for tonight’s show we worked in both vinyl and CDs procured during the trip along with new things and old things. Previewed music from Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women, Justin Townes Earle, and Sharon Jones all of whom appear in the New England area this weekend. First time spins went out to releases from The Wiyos (opening for Dylan at McCoy Stadium on Tuesday), Betty Soo, Dodd Ferrelle, and Jack O & the Tennessee Tearjerkers (thanks, Zac!). Buttshaker of the week???? Mack Allen Smith grabs the supreme salami with “Boogie Children”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
