Our first freewheeling Boudin Barndance of 2009 was a busy one. Featured a
bunch of new things throughout the evening including a few new local
releases (i.e., Southeastern Connecticut) from The Hoolios and Preston
Frantz. The last hour of the show was heavy on the soul and gospel with the
final set zeroing on some fabulous electrified gospel from two LPs on the
Mississippi Records label. Get ’em while you can. Back to the new
releases, recordings from Sleepy LaBeef, Jorma Kaukonen, Guy Davis, The
Rhythm Angels, Mickey Clark, Raul Malo, the aforementioned Hoolios and
Preston Frantz, and Jimmy “Duck” Holmes all made their Barndance debuts this
evening. Buttshaker of the week???? It takes on a churchy note with Sister
O.M. Terrell and “Life Is a Problem”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get
to the goods……
