The Boudin Barndance had a touch of sadness to it this evening as we remembered two music artists we lost in the last week. First was Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame member Rory MacLeod whose life was tragically cut short last weekend when hit by a car while walking his dog. Rory had his fingers in many Ocean State music projects during his lengthy career, my favorite of which were his years slapping the standup bass as a part of Jack Smith & The Rockabilly Planet. Another side project of his with his wife Sandol was the Hatfield McCoy Trio which also featured Jerry Miller and Bob Zuck. Billed as the “world’s largest trio,” the group recorded a series of shows for airing back around 2000. Thanks to former WRIU DJ Seth Jacobson, I was able to obtain one of these to air tonight which I did in addition to some Jack Smith tracks on which Rory was featured. We also remembered the great Raul Malo of The Mavericks fame who passed early in the week. Malo was an incredible singer and front man for a band that was one of the best in the business. Prior to all of this, it was our usual first hour focusing on mostly new releases followed by the weekly C&W segment. New albums and singles making the Barndance hit parade tonight was only a single from the upcoming release from Staten Island-based vocal group The Sha La Dahs. Buttshaker of the week???? A little Piano Red with “Let’s Get It On.” Hopefully you got to listen, but if not check the “LISTEN HERE” link above. Now let’s all grab a cold one or three, and get to the goods….
