Here’s the good news! As of this past Monday, our WRIU studio is once again open. Unfortunately when word came, I already had this evening’s show in the can. Expect a real live Barndance on September 10th! As for this evening’s show, two main things on the menu. First off, we remembered Justin Townes Earle who we lost a few weeks ago at the age of 38. So sad. We featured a couple of sets of JTE’s music. Also on the agenda, a salute to a couple of Labor Day traditions in these parts, the Rhythm & Roots Festival and its predecessor, the Cajun & Bluegrass Festival. Keeping with the Louisiana bent of each fest, we devoted the last hour to some classic Cajun and Zydeco music. Prior to all that, we featured a mess of mostly new and recent albums. New releases making their Barndance debut tonight included albums from Kris Delmhorst, Skylar Gregg, and Ashley Ray. Buttshaker of the week???? “J’ai Ete Au Bal” from the trio of Dewey Balfa, Marc Savoy, and D.L. Menard. Now let’s all grab a cold one, or three, and get to the goods….
