A busy evening on The Boudin Barndance on this gorgeous Thursday here in Southern Rhode Island. New releases dominated the first hour before moving into our weekly C&W-and-then-some set. Saluted the birthdays of Dale Watson and the late John Prine in a couple of mini-sets. We closed the show out with a remembrance of Reverend John Wilkins who passed earlier this week in Memphis and who put out a terrific album back in 2011. He also has a newly released follow-up which I’ve yet to hear. Wilkins’ career dates back to the 1960s playing on some classic O.V. Wright recordings. New releases making the Barndance hit parade for the first time included albums from Cordovas, Drive-By Truckers, The War & Treaty, This Frontier Needs Heroes, Rachel Brooke, Lyman Ellerman, and Appalachian Road Show. Buttshaker of the week???? The Reverend John Wilkins, of course, with “Jesus Will Fix It.” Now let’s all grab a cold one, or three, and get to the goods….
