On tonight’s Kingston Coffee House, I’ll acknowledge two notable musical anniversaries. Wes Anderson’s film The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) celebrates its 25th Anniversary, which means the film’s awesome soundtrack reached the same milestone. Randall Poster was the music supervisor for The Royal Tenenbaums, working closely with the director to curate the film’s iconic soundtrack. Poster is a long-time collaborator of Anderson, responsible for music selection across most of his filmography.
This month also marks the 55th anniversary of James Taylor’s album Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon. Released in April 1971 by Warner Bros. Records, it was recorded between early January and late February of the same year. “Mud Slide Slim” remains my favorite James Taylor album.
We also say “Happy Birthday” to James Hendricks, former member of ’60s-era folk groups The Mugwumps and The Big Three 9 (both with then-wife Cass Elliot). Hendricks wrote the ’60s classic “Summer Rain” (a hit for Johnny Rivers) as well as the memorable theme song to the iconic TV show Then Came Bronson.
All that, including new stuff from Cat Clyde, and a recap of the 2026 Grammy Awards’ folk and Americana nominees. Give a listen!
