Congratulations to Joe Parillo! JOE PARILLO TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE RHODE ISLAND MUSIC HALL OF FAME: Jazz pianist, composer and music educator Joe Parillo will be honored during an Induction Concert event at Pump House Music Works, Wakefield on Sunday, July 27. In 1980, Joe began his teaching career at CCRI and moved on to the URI Music Department in 1985 serving as Director of Jazz Studies and Department Chair (2010-2016). During his four+ decades in higher education, Joe simultaneously established himself as a jazz recording artist and concert performer with more than a dozen nationally and internationally released albums as a leader, co-leader and sideman. Along the way, he was recognized as a Steinway Artist, commissioned to compose three jazz ballets, and arranged and recorded more than two dozen full-length children’s productions. He also created the URI Big Band. He’s annually conducted the band at the Newport Jazz Festival and URI jazz students continue to be part of this prestigious music event. The induction and concert will be held at Pump House Music Works, 1464 Kingstown Road, Wakefield (South Kingstown), RI 02879, on Sunday, July 27. Doors open at 5:00 with Joe’s induction ceremony at 6:00 followed by a performance at 6:30. Tickets are $25
