After devoting the last three weeks to looking back at the year 2025 in recorded roots-and-then-some music, it was back to a proper Boudin Barndance this evening. We began with an hour of mostly new and recent releases before launching in to the weekly C&W segment which because we hadn’t done one in so long, was extended for a full hour. During it we memorialized both Sun rockabilly cat Hayden Thompson and also Johnny Legend each of whom passed since the holidays. The final hour began with a set inspired by seeing Neko Case live last week and then we closed with a remembrance of the great Memphis-based soul singer Don Bryant who passed on December 26. New albums and singles this evening came from Lucinda Williams, Lisa O’Neil, Emily Scott Robinson, The Nude Party, Barry Walker Jr, Dry Cleaning, The Sha La Das, and The James Hunter Six. Buttshaker of the week???? Willie Mitchell with Don Bryant on he vocals with “That Driving Beat.” Now let’s all grab a cold one or two and get to the goods….
